Is It Hard to Get Approved for Long-Term Disability?
Yes, securing LTD benefits can be challenging. Up to 60% of claims are initially denied, often because insurers actively look for gaps in evidence, application, or strictly apply policy definitions. Despite the fact that each long-term disability claim is unique, insurers often have a set of conventional justifications for dismissing or terminating long-term disability claims. As such, some of the key reasons why LTD claims may be denied are as follows:
- Failure to file a claim on time
- Failure to communicate with the insurer
- Insufficient medical evidence
- Refusal to submit to reasonable medical treatment
- Failure to participate in rehabilitation
- Credibility issues while assessing your claim
Even legitimate claims are rejected every day. Having the right medical evidence—and an experienced disability lawyer—greatly increases your chances of turning a denial into an approval.
